Amber Lake Negotiation Simulation — Diplomatic Edition

The Amber Lake Negotiation Simulation is an intensive four-hour experiential workshop — including short breaks — designed for groups of 18 to 30 participants, and ideal for diplomatic training programs, government leadership development, and executive education for organizations operating in complex multilateral environments.

Six countries with asymmetric power, competing domestic political pressures, bilateral debt relationships, and conflicting national interests must negotiate the governance of a shared resource through a regional institution whose authority is real but whose enforcement is limited.

The simulation’s objectives are to develop participants’ capacity for strategic multilateral negotiation, to build practical skills in agenda-setting, coalition formation, and institutional design, and to deepen understanding of the structural tensions that define contemporary international diplomacy.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to analyze the structural tensions of multilateral diplomacy, develop strategic negotiation skills in complex institutional settings, and connect simulation dynamics directly to current international practice.
